4A+ Redesign

Enhancing UX for 4A+

This project brief from 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art (4A) was one of the 6 live briefs provided to Western Sydney University for a 4th-year unit that focuses on transitioning student designers to the industry.

Students are required to work within the brief guidelines and present work in progress to the client via Zoom for feedback.

I chose to work on this brief specifically because it caters towards my expertise, being the only brief out of the 6 that had a strong focus on UX.

Additionally, I could also see the potential in the project for both application and marketing if the correct steps were taken.

The Challenge

Making the Experience More "Alive"

The brief indicated that the current experience felt impersonal and challenging to navigate according to user feedback from the University of New South Wales Art & Design (UNSWAD).

There is also a noted uncertainty among users about how the online experience compares favourably to in-person interactions.

4A would like these concerns to be addressed through the brief and have the experience transformed into something personable, engaging, intuitive, and distinctively advantageous compared to real-life interactions.

In other words, the experience needs to be more thoughtful and "alive".

The Approach

UX Analysis and Implementation of New Systems

A thorough UX analysis was conducted on the current experience. The pros and cons were further analysed and summarised into features to implement into the new UX/UI design.

Focusing on the following aspects:

Navigation Control

Task Bar

Islands/Exhibit Area Segmentation

Other General Indications of Interaction

The final outcome was overall more thoughtful, and felt more 'alive". It was engaging, intuitive and distinctively advantageous compared to real-life interactions—addressing the concerns from 4A's provided brief.
